Quality Plasma TVs
Everybody wants an awesome new flat screen HDTV, and at the top of everyone's list are quality plasma TVs. Quality plasma TVs are often considered to be the best kind of television set to purchase, particularly for larger size – 40 inch or over – sizes. While technology with LCD TVs has caught up with the quality plasma TVs, many people still feel that there is nothing better than plasma.

The History of Plasma TVs

Plasma displays were actually invented over 40 years ago, in 1964. This first plasma display was a neon orange monochromatic neon computer screen. Obviously, the technology has improved just a bit since then! This original plasma display was invented at the University of Illinois by Donald Bitzer and several other individuals.

Another man who would go on to play a prominent role in the development and popularity of quality plasma TVs was Larry Weber, who spent years researching and improving the technology. He eventually founded a company, Plasmaco, which was purchased by Panasonic in the mid 1990s.

By 1997 Panasonic then released their first plasma television to the market for sale. In the same year, Fujitsu also introduced a plasma TV to the public. The technology for quality plasma TVs has continued to improve and to increase. That means that smaller models are now much more affordable and that larger than life models are now available. At a trade show in 2008, the largest plasma TV screen ever made was unveiled to the public. It stood at 6 feet high and 11 feet wide!

Technology behind Plasma TVs

So how do Plasma TV screens work? To sum up all of the scientific jargon behind the beautiful displays of plasma TVs, you have to start with the basic components of the TV itself. Two panels of glass, which between them house several different noble gasses, particularly neon and xenon are the main structures of a plasma television. The gasses are contained in thousands upon thousands of tiny cells. With the help of some electrical currents and charges, the gasses are turned into plasma, which excites certain chemicals to emit and display various shades of light.
