These calls occur in the evening (after he has logged off and left his office) and/or on the weekends. He has a seperate space in the basement where he works on his laptop to resolve the production issues. Can we take the home office deduction in this case?

My husband thinks not because he has a seperate office, but I pointed out that often times these calls are late at night (between 9 – 11pm after normal business hours). Doesn’t that situation then meet the IRS definition of “at the convenience of the employer”. In other words, he is able to fix these production problems at home late at night?
